The Tourism Police have not operated since 2017 after only a year of them being stationed in certain tourism hotspots.
Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia was answering a question sent to him in Parliament by Nationalist Party MP Jason Azzopardi. The minister was asked to provide an update as to the implementation of this pledge, to which the minister said that the pilot project ended in 2017.
41 police officers had undergone specialised training for several weeks in order for them to carry out such specific duties in Sliema and St Julian's.
The project was hailed "a success" by the minister responsible for the police, Foreign Affairs Minister Carmel Abela at the time, and was also potentially going to be extended to Gozo.
