Young Elisa Buhagiar, who tragically lost her life in a car accident in Manikata last Thursday, was laid to rest yesterday in a touching ceremony in Zebbug.

Elisa was born on 30 April 2009 to Joseph and Rachelle Buhagiar, who also have another daughter named Sarah.  Elisa attended St Joseph School in Blata l-Bajda and was in her fifth year of studies.

She is described as being a happy child who loved sport and was filled with energy and love. Her principal characteristic was a hug which she loved to give to everybody she met.

Her words were sweet and she managed to melt the hearts of many.  She was a perseverant girl who knew what she wanted and would not stop until she reached her aims, and she used to appreciate all the gifts of life, something which was reflected in the prayers of thanks that she used to write.

Elisa had a special love for pets and used to afford them special love and care, while she used to love spending a lot of time at the seaside snorkelling for sea-shells.

Singing was also something she loved, but it was prayer which was central to her life.  Many times she used to encourage us herself to say the Rosary and to say a prayer before sitting down to eat.

Her heart was truly a sweet and humbled one filled with God. In fact, she used to often say: “I belong to God”.
