Sunday, 30 June 2019, 12:00 Last update: about 6 years ago

A 31-year-old man from Qormi was charged on Sunday morning with having assaulted his parents during an argument on Saturday.

Keith Agius pleaded not guilty to assault, injuring his father, harassing his mother and relapsing.

The man is understood to have a drug problem.

Defence counsel Victor Bugeja requested bail but the prosecution objected, pointing out that the father was still in hospital and that investigations were still underway.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Joe Mifsud, heard how the accused had 13 previous convictions. Furthermore, an Agenzija Appogg report classifies the man as being “high risk.”

In view of this, the magistrate denied bail.

Police Inspector Kylie Borg prosecuted.
