The ISSF Shotgun World Championship taking place at Lonato del Garda, Italy

The ISSF World Championship Shotgun is currently taking place at the Trap Concaverde Shooting Ranges in Lonato del Garda, Italy.

Six hundred and sixteen athletes from eighty six different countries will compete in these events.

A Team of thirteen athletes will be representing Malta in the Trap, Double Trap and the Skeet events.

The Trap disciplines were the first events to begin with the Trap Women Junior, followed by the Trap Men Junior, the Trap Women and the Trap Men. All athletes shot on 125 targets in the qualification rounds with the first six overall in each event making it to the final stages to shoot on another potential 50 targets from a single shot.

ALI Selin (BUL) won the Trap Women Junior Final with the score of 41/50 + 2 Shoot-Off, SARANSKAIA  Tatiana (RUS) placed in second place with 41/50 + 1 Shoot-Off and HRDLICKOVA Zina (CZE) finished in third place overall with the score of 32/40. Both ALI and SARANSKAIA equalled the World Junior Record.

In the Trap Men Junior Event, it was LUSTOZA Leonardo (BRA) who won Gold with the score of 45/50. KOIVU Matias (FIN) scored 42/50 to take the Silver Medal and MACEK Rene (SLO) had to settle for the Bronze after he achieved the score of 36/40. LUSTOZA started the final stages with a handicap when he was given a one point deduction after he did not report in time for the Finals.

The Trap Women Event was won by CARROLL Ashley (USA) with the score of 42/50, in second place finished WANG Xiaojing (CHN) after hitting 41/50 and GALVEZ Fatima (ESP) took third place with the score of 33/40.

The last Final of the day was the Trap Men Event, where COWARD-HOLLEY Matthew John (GBR) claimed the top spot on the podium with the score of 45/50. He was joined on the podium by DE FILIPPIS Mauro (ITA) who scored 39/50 and by ALMUDHAF Khalid (KUW) with the score of 33/40.

After the five qualification rounds, the results of the Maltese Athletes were;

GALEA Mikaela in the Trap Women Junior Event scored 104/125 while SCIBERRAS Nico in his first ever experience abroad competed in the Trap Men Junior Event and finished with the decent score of 109/125.

In the Trap Men Event, CHETCUTI William hit 115/125 targets, GALEA Brian managed 112/125 and VELLA Christopher also on his first attempt abroad managed a satisfactory result of 111/125.

Competing in the Trap Men MQS Extra were FORMOSA Paul who achieved his goal with the score of 112/125 and CARABOTT Nicholas who managed 111/125.
