The rent law reform will not change anything - Adrian Delia

The rent law reform making its way through Parliament will not change the problems Malta is facing, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said

Speaking during Parliament, Adrian Delia highlighted that problems due to high prices in rent and homelessness did not just occur over the past six years, but have existed for years, and are now building up. 'This law will not solve the problem, as the rent law is based on the economic model which the government has chosen.' He said that the economic model which the Labour government has chosen is based on increasing the population, but does not take into consideration the limited space on the island.

"The economic model of the island did not build slowly, but doubled at an alarming pace."

"One way or another, we must do something to solve these issues, as everyone has a right to have a roof over their head." He explained that many face housing problems due to different situations -  family problems, separations or domestic abuse; yet regardless every single one of them deserves the peace of mind of having a roof over their head.

He said that the law is only focusing on the present problems and does not look to the future. "We need to do much more," said Delia, "we need to come together, as opposition and government and plan on how to make the lives of Maltese and Gozitans better."
