Come together

The pattern of dependence is clear now.  There is nothing that Dr Adrian Delia, as leader of the Nationalist Party has done alone, on his own, created or delivered.  He is like that early childhood bicycle that has wheels at the back to help you from falling off.

From his installation as party leader, he has delivered only one message.  That is, to come together.  Having his team to back him and drive him, he extended the idea of inclusivity not just to those who did not fall into friendship mode with him within the party, but also towards the Labour Party.

In his words in Parliament on the law that is passing through reading on the Rent Reform, Delia stated that the problem of accommodation and rent is not recent but has been generated in earlier decades, and has now accelerated.  He handed the government a get out of jail free card by saying so, thereby shifting the problem into some Free Zone where no one is responsible and accountable for the underlying causes of the problem.

He continues to say that Opposition and Government should come together to find a way to make things better.

According to Dr Delia, we all should come together and sing Kumbaya. Whether it is within the party or across the aisle, the song remains the same.  No opposition.  No leadership.  Only the football team that will drag the lousy kicker onto the pitch to make fun of him and laugh at him loose balls which are landed right at his feet.

He also has a new best-friend now, with Dr Louis Galea, or so he thinks, so nobody should mess with him anymore.

Meanwhile the jeers and the flops continue to the delight of the labour media and to the despair of anyone still looking for some flicker of light in the PN.

In America, across the more central and mid-belts, there are a number of churches, led by self-made preachers who have a narcissistic need to be worshipped and create a good business for themselves.  Nobody challenges their preaching and the preacher offers and is given that feeling of inclusivity and fame amongst the congregation, no matter how grave the sin.

That is what is feels like. The new church of Dr Delia.  A new denomination church of lost souls who will sing with him and he can comfort them and become someone the congregation needs and looks up to.

Across the other side of the aisle is the High Pope himself.  He tried to measure his achievements by the size of his congregation and unfortunately, the real world brushed him aside without so much as a word of praise.

One might say that they go well together, the Pope and the Preacher.  Coming together has not been too much of an effort.

I’m sure the jostling for the EU top jobs were strongly fought over but at the end of the day, they function within normal personalities, defeat is accepted and work begins.  Normal politicians in well developed countries, have a normal life and cycle to work or take the train like ordinary citizens.  They have a family and need good measures like the work-life balance law to ensure that they have something besides the inside feeling of the world of politics.  To remain rooted to reality.

From outside, organisations and political spheres seem like a privileged world where anyone who is allowed access is given instant power and is above all other normal persons.  That buzz of belonging to a select group.  The reality is different.  Only those who are in it for the right reasons, with the will to do good will survive.  Humility, good character and a clear mind, remain the most important traits to have in order to succeed.

We, the public, Maltese citizens and also foreign residents, are here to call for proper leadership, from the Government, from the Opposition and from civil organizations who are meant to protect us.  At this time, our island is under great strain on an individual level and as a whole country.

Yes, this rent law reform is very important if the free-fall is to be stopped and some semblance of protection and affordable rates are to be implemented.  We are not dealing with the increase in price of canned tuna fish here.  And with the rent-reform there should come the health reform, the prisons reform, the army reform, the justice reform, the media reform and the end of the jobs for the boys, cosycosy between them as they cruise ahead to full screen mode.

Jason Azzopardi is the one who speaks out and calls a spade a spade.  That is why he is attacked from both sides.  He should be joined by other ordinary MPs who do their job. David Casa and Roberta Metsola are in Brussels.  If there is to be any coming together, it should be to share the load.
