A man was seriously injured after he was first hit by a car and, while on the ground, being run over by a second vehicle, the police said.
The accident happened at 1.10am in National Road, Hamrun.
The 29-year-old Norwegian man was hit by a Peugeot 607 driven by a 40-year-old man of Zurrieq. While on the ground, another car driven by a 31-year-old man of Valletta ran over him.
Civil Protection Department officers and a medical team were called on site.
The Norwegian man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Magistrate Victor Asicak is leading an inquiry.
