A 93-year-old Italian man told police that he killed his wife because he was convinced she was planning to betray him by sending him to an old people’s home, Italian media report.

The man hit his wife with a wheelchair footrest as she was helping him to bed, news agency ANSA reports. The incident happened in Milan on Sunday.

The man is believed to have admitted to investigators that he had just quarrelled with his wife who had told him that she was planning to send him to an old people’s home.

The man, who suffers from senile dementia, explained he was convinced the move was being planned for his wife to re-establish an extra-marital affair.
