A man was seriously injured last night when he was hit by a blunt object during an argument with another man, the police said.

The incident took place in Trqi il-Zied, Zebbug, Gozo just after midnight.

District police and members of the Rapid Intervention Union went on site to investigate reports of a fight.

The injured man, a Gozitan 50-year-old of Zebbug, was involved in an argument with a group of persons, probably foreigners, the police said. At one point, he was hit with a blunt object.

He was taken to Gozo General Hospital with serious injuries.
