The MIDI group said today that the permit issued by the Planning Authority on Thursday refers only to the excavation of the site, and does not extend to the proposed dredging works.
MIDI was referring to the article “Manoel Island excavation permit approved despite ongoing appeal”, which reports a statement issued by the NGO Flimkien Ghal Ambjent ahjar.
The reference made in the article, MIDI said, to the call made by the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage (SCH) for an underwater evaluation of the seabed being ignored, is in fact incorrect and misleading.
The application in question PA8605/18, approved by the PA, relates solely to the excavation of the site and does not extend to the proposed dredging works. The dredging works are the subject of a separate application for which an underwater survey has been commissioned by MIDI as required by the SCH, MIDI said.
