Floriana gained their second win on the trot when in a difficult match they defeated Balzan by a solitary goal scored seven minutes from the end. Balzan were reduced to ten man nearing the end of the first half and though in inferiority they never threw in the towel

In fact after conceeding late in the game they mounted a reaction which produced a golden chance to draw level when they were awarded a penalty in the 95th minute. But Lydon Micallef who had just come on in place of Steve Bezzina shot wide.

The first action came from Balzan when in the 3rd minute a shot by Paul Fenech was saved by Akpan. On the other end Floriana replied eleven minutes later with Camenzuli setting Garcia whose shot from the left flank was saved by Naumovski.

Play was restricted to the midfield sector for long stretches but Balzan were dealt a severe blow eigth minutes from the end of the first half when Loof was given the marching orders after flooring Garcia on the edge of the area.

Though playing with ten man Balzan where the team that went near when in the 43rd minute off a Correa free kick, a headed effort by Kosoric was blocked by Akpan and from the rebound Bozovic blasted high.

And deep into first half added time Effiong was unlucky when his shot from just outside the area hit the upright.

On resumption Floriana thought that they had taken the lead when on 47minutes off a Paiber cross who had just come on instead of Vella, Keqi converted into the net but the goal was disallowed for a handling infringement.

Balzan went near in the 64th minute when a Correa thunderbolt was blocked by an alert Akpan. Four minutes later a Paiber shot from inside the area was saved by Naumovski with Balzan counter attacking through Effiong whose final shot was saved by Akpan.

Floriana finally broke the stalemate in the 83rd minute when off a Paiber cross from the right flank in came Keqi whose low drive found the corner of the net.

On the stroke of time Ryan Camenzuli could have sealed the issue but his shot from the left flank ended wide. In added time Balzan were awarded a penalty after Garcia was adjudged to have brought down Uros Ljubomirac. After heavy protests and when order was restored Lydon Micallef waisted a glorious opportunity when he shot wide off the mark to the delight of the Floriana players and supporters.
