The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects is happy to announce the official launch of the ‘Malta Bus Reborn’ concept, which will take place during an exhibition in Triton Square on Friday 11 October at 8pm.

‘Malta Bus Reborn’ is a concept that has been announced on 1 April of this year, giving rise to discussions with a very positive response from many people. The concept, proposed by architect Jonathan Mizzi and Mizzi Studio, is based on an innovative design for an electric fleet of buses, the design of which incorporates several particular characteristics associated with the traditional buses we used to see on our roads.

The idea behind this concept is to combine culture and tradition with progress and sustainability, particularly in the way we move, and this is why the Ministry has given its support to the launch of this concept.

Regarding the subject, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg said, “When we speak about multimodality, we do not only mean avoiding the use of the private vehicle every time, choosing to walk or using a small vehicle such as the motorcycle or the bicycle. To the contrary, a very important means in this move is public transport. In the last few years we’ve made several investment in this means of transport, to have a larger fleet that can support the increase in use, to continue incentivising people to use it, as well as for a continuously cleaner and more sustainable fleet. We therefore cannot but fully support a concept that prioritises the environment and sustainability, while looking back to our departure point from our childhood.”

From his end, the architect behind this concept Jonathan Mizzi said, “Our design for a new electric Malta Bus celebrates the iconic legacy of its predecessors whilst adapting to the present through a re-design that is wholly contemporary and remarkably energy efficient. We are thrilled that the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects is backing this project. With their support, we believe our new bus can redefine a segment of Maltese heritage that has remained truly valued by its public.”

The Ministry said that a short clip in the format of a teaser trailer is available on the social media of the new informative platform ‘Move’, led by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects.

The concept ‘Malta Bus Reborn’ is being supported by several stakeholders and entities, including Malta Public Transport, Arts Council Malta, Heritage Malta, Transport Malta, Eden Leisure Group, Mizzi Organisation, Stargate Studios, Lovin Malta and Gadgets.
