Fgura United sprang a surprise yesterday beating Pembroke by the odd goal in three to gain their first points and victory of the season. After suffering their opening three matches and conceeding eleven goals, Fgura were in different shape yesterday, more solid at the back to gain a precious and deserved victory.

After some Pembroke efforts, Fgura broke the deadlock on the half hour with Shawn Borg firing home following a melee in front of goal.

On 59 minutes Fgura doubled the score thanks to a Sergio Hili first timer. Pembroke stormed forward in the remaining minutes but could only reduce the arrears on 89 minutes through substitute Mifsud Triganza.

Tempers flared  in the final seconds with Fgura's Joey Reno Vella and Pembroke's Neil Frendo sent off by referee Portelli.

St.George's obtained their first victory of the season beating Mqabba 2-1, leaving their opponents firmly at the bottom of the table. The Saints' victory grows in proportion, having played for more than an hour with ten players.

The balance was broken on the half hour when the Saints were reduced to ten players when Loumar Cutajar was sent off for dissent. But a minute later St.George's broke the deadlock when Dylan Caruana pounced on a dfensive blunder to lob the ball home.

Seven minutes later Mqabba were back on level terms when Ferreira was brought down inside the area and Paul Chimezie converted from the penalty spot.

Six minutes into the second half the Saints scored what proved to be the winner, when Mentosa passed towards the promising Dylan Caruana who scored his second goal of the day.
