Watch: Delia confronted by Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister before laying wreath at memorial

Wednesday, 16 October 2019, 12:10 Last update: about 6 years ago

PN leader Adrian Delia was confronted by Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister before he laid a wreath at the slain journalist’s memorial on Wednesday, in commemoration of two years since she was assassinated.

Delia was accompanied by several high ranking PN officials, such as deputy leaders Robert Arrigo and David Agius, and Louis Galea, who has been entrusted with working on a reform of the party, as he laid a wreath at the foot of the Great Siege Monument which is the site of a makeshift memorial to Caruana Galizia.

There he was confronted by one of Caruana Galizia’s sisters, Helene Asciak, who urged them to step away.

"Can you please have respect?", she said before adding that the wreath-laying was only being done as a stunt for the cameras.

The politicians ignored her attempts to block them and went ahead and placed the wreath anyway, with Asciak telling them “Shame on you, crooks” as they placed the wreath.

Within minutes of the party’s delegation leaving, the wreath lay strewn across the floor.

Delia had also placed a wreath at the memorial last year.  Wednesday marks the second anniversary since Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb outside her home in Bidnija.
