Watch: PM did not answer our questions - Delia

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia, in a press conference following Parliament, said that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had not answered questions the PN had put to him, "despite him saying that he would."

Delia criticized the government's response to the riot at the Hal Far Open Centre, insisting that the people were worried before, and are still worried now.

He said that Muscat decided not to focus on the real problems such as the high cost of living, and the property and rent prices. "He did not talk about fixing these problems but instead gave a guarantee that these issues will keep on growing."

"This is unlike the Nationalist Party that said they will guarantee that people will have a roof on their head."

Delia also noted that the Prime Minister did not talk about early school leavers, and that whilst he boasted about investments in education, there was still a teacher shortage.

He also accused Muscat of ignoring low-income workers when they would complain about cheap labour brought from outside the country, or the banking sector. He accused Muscat of ignoring the middle class, who Delia said were not given any hope through this budget

Delia maintained that the Nationalist Party cared about these sectors and wants sustainability, whilst the Prime Minister did not give any comfort as to how Malta will look to the future.

When queried on whether he agrees with the Prime Minister's implication that the Nationalist Party is disorganized because of their labelling of the Open Centre as a "Detention Centre" and their leaving a note regarding the Gender Pay Gap in their Pre-Budget Document, Delia instead spoke on the two issues separately.

"I respect what the Prime Minister said, that the PN is disorganized, but I think that the people were expecting the PM to answer on the way that he administers the country - on the way that this budget makes the lives of people better."

He pointed out that the people know that the price of property has gone up higher than it ever has, and that women are paid less for the same job.

Delia insisted that he used the Prime Minister's own words, "that if you do not recognize that you have a problem then you cannot solve that problem."

On the issue of the centers that hold migrants, the Opposition Leader once again criticized Muscat for not answering the questions they posed to him on the issue, among the many other questions that he did not answer.

"It is our obligation to keep posing these questions, and we hope that one day the Prime Minister answers them"
