The PN, in a statement, satisfactorily noted the action taken by the police for justice to occur in the wake of the Hal Far Open Centre riot, referring to the recent court arraignments, however raised a number of questions it wants answered.
The PN urged solidarity with the open centre officials, police and soldiers. The PN took aim at the government however, for not providing a clear explanation regarding what happened, and neither about what is happening in detention centres. The PN said that it is calling on the government to answer the following questions:
"How many people are there in detention centres? How many people in Malta have asylum? How many are waiting to be granted asylum? How many migrants were repatriated since the beginning of the year? What is the proportion of officials with migrants in the centres? When an issue arises are there enough officials to control the situation? What are the conditions of work for detention centre officials? What communication is there between the staff and the residents of detention centres? What privacy do the residents of these centres have? What integration policies does government want to implement? What detention areas can cater for the amount of people in them?"
The PN made reference to the damage caused by the riot, and the difficulty it took to regain order. It also called for the establishment of an inquiry board to see the reasons and what responsibility needs to be upheld.
