MaltaToday managing editor Saviour Balzan today filed a libel suit against Times of Malta journalist Ivan Camilleri.

On Wednesday, MaltaToday ran a story, written by Balzan, claiming that Camilleri had been caught shoplifting from a supermarket in Naxxar. Camilleri, in a post on Facebook, denied the accusation.

On Thursday, Balzan said in a statement that he had filed a libel suit following Camilleri’s comments. He said he wrote the story after verifying the incidents and that, in a career of 33 years, it was only the second time that he resorted to libel action. Balzan said the case was filed for the truth to come out.
