Customs seize 2 kg of cocaine at the airport, street value exceeds €200,000

Customs officers found 2kg of cocaine in packages at the Malta International Airport on Wednesday evening.

While on duty at the Malta International Airport during the clearance of passengers arriving from Brussels-Charleroi, customs personnel stopped a passenger after passing through the blue exit channel and directed him to the scanning machine.

On scanning the luggage Customs personnel noticed two suspicious packages. Subsequently, it transpired that both packages contained 2kgs of white substance and following a preliminary field test all indications led to cocaine. It is believed that the street value of this seizure exceeds the €200,000 figure, the Customs Department said in a statement..

The Police Drugs Squad were duly informed and the passenger, together with his belongings, was escorted to Police headquarters for further investigations.
