President George Vella today delivered a keynote speech at a forum held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall held at Europe House in Valletta.

President Vella spoke about the significance of this turning point in recent European history, and how this event had long been coming. The President went on to speak about the atmosphere of freedom, unity, and jubilation present in Berlin and all-round Europe at that time.

The fall of the wall, President Vella maintained, was also the fall of the politics of division and a reaffirmation of the urge of humanity to unite, as both the East and the West of the country united and gave birth to what is today a dynamic, artistic, and culturally-rich city.

The President said how this commemorative forum comes at an opportune time and provides an excellent platform to reminisce on the divisions of the past, as well as reflect on the potential damage of present or future divisions. President Vella concluded by stating that politics, when adopted for the common good, can bring about positive and long-lasting change.

This forum was organized by Corporate ID Group's Insights Institute and CI Consulta Geopolitics Advisory Unit, as well as the European Commission's Representation in Malta and Fondation de Malte's Geovistas Institute.
