Zejtun Corinthians had another impressive display yesterday to beat bottom of the table side Vittoriosa and move to second place in the standings. Fresh from their victory over league leaders Lija, Zejtun powered their way past a sorry Vittoriosa side, yesterday under the guidance of Ivan Zammit.

Vittoriosa tried their best but were never really in the game as they were much of the time on the receiving end, with their goalkeeper Zach Valletta making some daring saves to keep the score a respectable one.

Zejtun took the lead on eleven minutes with a great freekick scored Jurgen Suda, undoubtedly the player of the match. Zejtun doubled the score on the hour thanks to a Robeiro Do Nascimento goal following a Dylan Agius through pass.

On 70 minutes Jurgen Suda crowned a great performance scoring his second goal with a great solo run and eleven minutes from time Vittoriosa pulled one back with a Sidibe header after Guerrero's had hit the crossbar.

Mqabba-Naxxar L            0-2

Mqabba: F. Tabone, M. Caruana, J. Micallef, D. Micallef, J. Spiteri (K. Xuereb 64'), P. Chimezie, A. Makela, N. Micallef, K. Magro, Y. Omuro (A. Ferreira 46'), K. Camilleri (L. Farrugia 78').

Naxxar L: O. Borg, J. Sciberras (A. Azzopardi 79'), M. Fenech, M. Mifsud, E. Cerqueira Farias, D. Falzon (J. Ellul 79'), R. Cassar, J. Debono, B. Essel, S. Meilak, G. Martins Leite (R. Mercieca 87').

Referee: Fyodor Zammit

Scorers: Jurgen Debono 42', Gilberto Martins Leite 74'.

The Lions are roaring back, and after suffering their first defeat of the season against Pembroke in their last outing they outclassed Mqabba to beat them with a goal in each half for a deserved victory.

The match rarely reached high standards, but Naxxar showed better ideas throughout the match, with Mqabba rarely giving the impression they are going to score. Naxxar took the lead three minutes before the break when Jurgen Debono hit home from an ideal position after Martins Leite's effort was blocked by a defender.

In the second half Mqabba held the initiative for long stretches but were practically never dangerous, with Naxxar menacing in their counter breaks. On 74 minutes Naxxar sealed the issue with a well-taken goal with Martins Leite exchanging the ball with Jurgen Debono and slotting home from close range.
