Two 70-year-olds were injured in a traffic accident this morning, on Triq-Had-Dingli, Rabat, one of whome passed away in hospital.

The 73-year-old man and the 74-year-old woman were Zebbug residents. 

The police said that they were informed about the incident at 9.30am, and that there was a collision between two vehicles.

Police went on site and said that the accident was between a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Daihatsu Hi-jet. 

The Mitsubishi was being driven by a 48-year-old man from Dingli. The Daihatsu was driven by the 73-year-old man, and the 74-year-old woman was his passenger.

Civil Protection personnel also went on site to assist. Both 70-year-olds were taken to Mater Dei Hospital. Both suffered serious injuries. The 48-year-old man suffered no injuries. The 73-year-old man later passed away.

A magisterial inquiry was called and investigations are ongoing.
