Nexia BT’s Brian Tonna has heaped glowing praise on the outgoing Prime Minister, saying that Joseph Muscat is “the best that ever was and that ever will be.”

Commenting beneath a Facebook post by Labour militant and former GWU boss Tony Zarb, Tonna said “history will recognize what you (Muscat) have contributed to this country.”

“Never before there was statesmanship and leadership that brought the envy of failed pretenders,” he continued, ending his post with the acronym YNWA (you’ll never walk alone).

Nexia BT was the advisory company that opened Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri’s Panama companies – Hearnville and Tillgate – as well as their New Zealand trusts. It was also behind attempts by the pair to open bank accounts in Dubai.

It had also set up the secretive Panama company Egrant, refusing to give the name of its ultimate beneficial owner in email correspondence with infamous Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

More significantly, Nexia BT had explained in leaked emails that 17 Black – the company owned by Yorgen Fenech – was to be a target client for Mizzi and Shembri’s Panama companies. Fenech has been charged with conspiracy to organise the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Earlier this week, Tonna told The Malta Independent that he has not been questioned by the police.
