Luxol    55    Starlites GIG    84

(7-22, 22-24, 10-25, 16-13)

With Hibs winning their game a day before, it was imperative for Starlites to stay in touch. This they did, with a no-nonsense win, as they brushed aside Luxol, collecting their fourth victory over the Violets, this season. Starlites had a couple of players missing, their Hungarian, Fanni Fabok, and Stephanie Davis, still out injured, but they weren't really missed. Not so Luxol, who had three experienced players out of the reckoning. Sarah Pace, the Spanish, Ina Baena, and Mandi Mercieca were all absent and were felt badly, as Luxol struggled to cope with their adversaries, falling behind rapidly. They recovered later, but the damage was done, and they could only hope to make up a good tally of points, till the end of the match.

Starlites opened with a flourish, with an 8-0 run, and even though Luxol had Antoinette Borg, and later on Kay Portelli, making triples, Starlites could enjoy a good lead, more so, as Michela Zammit Cordina and Steffi DeMartino made treys in a late rush, till the end of the period. The next session had Luxol in a better frame of mind. they managed to match their opponents in points, thus preventing them from adding on to their lead. Borg and Noelene Vella made most of Luxol's points, with Michela Riolo and DeMartino sinking triples for Starlites, along with more Zammit Cordina buckets. Starlites still had a comfortable advantage, at 46-29, at the interval.

After the break Luxol were answering back at first. with Maria Bonett putting in a Starlites trey. Suddenly Luxol faltered, and Starlites swept in an 11-0 run, leaving their opponents stranded. Luxol recovered a little, but they were then 39-71 behind. The last session had Starlites extending their lead further, as Anthea Micallef made her triple. With Starlites beginning to ease off, Luxol found space to net their triples, in a 12-2 run, from two quick Lara Caruana Montaldo ones, and another by Beverlee Zammit, to hike up their score to a more respectable one.
