Substantial power cut as PL leadership contenders debate... at home

Sunday, 5 January 2020, 21:02 Last update: about 5 years ago

Several parts of Malta were temporarily without power once again this evening.

Electricity was lost soon after a debate between the two contenders for the leadership of the Labour Party began a debate on home soil - on the PL TV station.

But most of the Maltese missed parts of it - if there was any intention to watch it - as a power cuthit the islands. It is not known whether the two contenders will be addressing the issue.

While Chris Fearne has been more forthcoming with the media, Robert Abela has been reluctant to speak to the independent press - evidently, he feels more at ease with the easy questions.

Reports of no power are being reported in Mellieha, Gozo, Swatar, Marsacala, Swieqi, Balzan, Qormi, St Paul's Bay, Birkirkara and Attard, among other localities. Residents reported that the electricity was back on after some minutes.

Power cuts have been quite frequent in the past few weeks ever since damage was caused to the interconnector between Malta and Sicily.

Enemalta had warned that power cuts were to be happen more frequently because of the damage.

Businesses have expressed their concern about the situation and a special session was held for the MCESD members during which Enemalta explained the situation.
