Mosta followed up their midweek win against Gudja with another important victory, this time against bottom club Tarxien, to move to safer waters in mid-table.
Braces from Zachary Brincat and Weverton Gomes as well as a goal from Dexter Xuereb enabled Mosta to crush the Rainbows whose chances of avoiding relegation are now diminishing by the minute.
Matthew Tabone and Aleksa Andrejic scored Tarxien's goals.
Mosta are now on 19 points, five above third from bottom Senglea, while Tarxien remain on just one point after 14 matches.
Play was equally balanced in the first half as bottom club Tarxien gave as much as they got.
On paper, Mosta were considered to be a superior side and so it seemed after they came from behind to score twice and take a 2-1 lead.
But Tarxien had other ideas and they quickly fought back to draw level with an excellent goal.
But just before the interval, Mosta were once again in front as Zachary Brincat scored his second and his side's third goal.
In the second half, Mosta took command scoring two quick goals through Weverton Gomes to take a healthy three-goal cushion.
With the same Gomes and Muchardi dominating the midfield sector, they rarely afforded their opponents a chance to get back into the match.
Till the end, Mosta coolly defended their ranks although the Rainbows failed to take advantage of two good chances which came their way.
In the 5th minute Mosta almost took the lead when off a Dexter Xuereb cross, the ball just missed the post off a deviation by a Tarxien defender.
Tarxien took the lead on 10 minutes when off a Thomas Veronese cross, Daniel Zerafa's shot at goal was flicked into the net by Matthew Tabone.
Mosta took only eight minutes to equalise when Zachary Brincat beat the Tarxien offside trap when set beautifully by Weverton Gomes, advanced and beat the onrushing goalie Towns with a low shot.
Mosta went on to take the lead in the 23rd minute. It was Dexter Xuereb who hit home a fine freekick from outside the area, giving goalie Towns no chance.
Tarxien were back on level terms in the 32nd minute. It was Stiv Shaba who set Aleksa Andrejic on the edge of the area from where the latter fired a great volley past a helpless Andreas Vella.
Mosta were back in front in the 44th minute when Dexter Xuereb crossed low into the Tarxien area and Zachary Brincat hit home a fine first timer.
Mosta added a fourth goal in the 48th minute. A fine run by Duane Bonnici ended with a good pass to Zachary Brincat who transferred the ball to the unmarked Weverton Gomes and the latter beat Towns with an unstoppable shot.
Only four minutes had elapsed and Gomes was again a protagonist as he received the ball on the edge of the area and scored with a fine inswinger that had Towns beaten all ends up.
Tarxien almost reduced the gap in the 58th minute. Andrejic crossed from the left and in an effort to clear his lines, Soares almost committed an own goal had it not been for goalie Vella to palm the ball away from over the line.
On 65 minutes, it was Andrejic again who went close with a fine inswinger that just missed the target.
Here the match lost much of its interest and Mosta could coast home to a comfortable victory.
