Nationalist Party and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that Prime Minister Robert Abela must be humble, admit that he has failed and start hearing to the increasing appeals being made to him to address the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
In a statement, Grech said that the government is addressing the movement of the COVID-19 virus in our country as if everything was business as usual, even when it came to the education sector.
Earlier this morning, Grech had another meeting with the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT). This meeting was one of a series that Grech has been having with the unions and stakeholders who have been affected by the spread of the coronavirus in order to show appreciation for their work, and to reiterate their appeal to the Government as soon as possible.
During the meeting, Grech claimed that the government has created a sense of great uncertainty for teachers, parents and students as it is working and making certain decisions as if everything is business as usual.
Now that the second wave of the pandemic is here, the government has been caught in a state of panic, Grech said.
He added that the government must stop playing with or taking people’s health lightly.
“The Nationalist Party will be at the forefront to insist that on our health should be in the hands of the health authorities and not Robert Abela.”
In light of these circumstances, the statement said that Grech will be meeting with other unions and unions who represent workers in the sectors most affected by COVID-19.
