Rapid Antigen Test to detect whether one has Covid-19 or not costs significantly higher in Gozo compared to Malta, with the price tag of €65 per test, The Malta Independent is informed.

Instead of the normal PCR Covid-19 swab tests, one may opt for Rapid Antigen Tests to detect whether one is positive to the virus.

Antigen tests are commonly used in the diagnosis of respiratory pathogens, including influenza viruses and respiratory viruses, including Covid-19. Malta introduced this mode of testing to identify if one has the Coronavirus or not on 28 October.

Two people who took a rapid test while in Gozo – after having taken a similar test in Malta - discovered that the rapid test in Gozo cost substantially more. The test in Gozo was at the price of €65 from the only private company that offers the rapid test in the sister island, while in Malta the test costs between €35 to €45.

The Malta Independent contacted various pharmacies and clinics which offer rapid testing in order to identify what price differences there are between the two islands of Malta and Gozo in private clinics, laboratories and pharmacies.
