Hamrun was draped in red and black after its football team won its first football league title in 30 years.

The locality’s football team – Hamrun Spartans – were confirmed as Premier League champions last Friday after Malta’s football leagues were cut short for another year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is the club’s first title since 1991 and it came on the birthday of the late Victor Tedesco, who led the club back then and who the club’s stadium is named after.

“Malta's favourite social punching bag is in ecstasy”, Stefan Cutajar – who snapped the photos of his hometown – said on social media, sharing the images.

While physical celebrations were curtailed due to the pandemic - with supporters confined to carcading in their own cars - the club's faithful supporters obliged in decorating their facades with their team's colours.
