Maltese MEP Josianne Cutajar was chosen by the European Socialists as a representative in the plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe which is being held today in Strasbourg.
At a preparatory conference (the first caucus) of the Socialists and Democrats Group of the European Parliament and the PES, the European Socialist Party, ahead of today’s plenary session, Josianne Cutajar reiterated the need for a much more inclusive and social Europe, as well as a Europe that shows effective solidarity.
“We need to get closer to our citizens, and we should use the Conference on the Future of Europe as an occasion to listen to our people’s concerns, but also to act. We need a Europe that ensures that no country, region or person falls behind” Dr Cutajar emphasized.
The Maltese MEP further stated that Europe should be there for all workers, vulnerable citizens and those on the European periphery.
“Europe must above all be there for those who are being discriminated against, as was the case in Hungary this week, with a discriminatory law targeting the LGBTIQ community” Josianne Cutajar stressed.
Finally, Cutajar stated that as the group of European Socialists it is necessary to work to be as close as possible to European citizens in order to be able to make a real and positive difference in people’s lives.
