A 25-year-old Syrian man who resides in St Paul's Bay is being held under arrest over acts of vandalism performed on vehicles and shops in Mellieha.
At 3am on Sunday morning, the police were informed that someone was throwing stones at vehicles on Triq il-Marfa.
District police went on site but did not find anyone. The police took note of some parked vehicles and shop windows that had considerable damage, including glass that was broken by stones.
The police were given a description of the man who allegedly committed these acts of vandalism, and a search began. Around 30 minutes later, a man was seen who fit the description, walking towards Xemxija. He was arrested and taken to the Police HQ in Floriana.
From further investigation, the police found nine vehicles and 8 shop windows damaged with broken glass along Triq il-Marfa, Triq Gorg Borg Olivier and Triq il-Kbira Melliaha. The investigation is ongoing.
