Maltese and Libyan Foreign Ministers discussed the difficult way forward for the Libyan people  to reunite and take back the wealth for all the Libyan people, a statement from the Maltese ministry said.

Minister Evarist Bartolo met his Libyan counterpart Najla Al Mangoush while attending the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg.

Minister Bartolo augured that the spirit of Omar Al Mukhtar wins over those who have an interest in Libya and abroad to take over the Libyan wealth  instead of being used for the good of the Libyan people. Al Mukhtar had given his life for a free and united Libya.

The Council of Foreign Ministers also discussed relations between the EU and the Arab Gulf countries. Minister Bartolo said that Malta is in favour of the strengthening of the ties between the Arab Gulf and the EU.

‘The EU must treat these countries with equal respect. Better quiet diplomacy than a lot of noisy condemnations,’ emphasised Minister Bartolo.

Minister Bartolo spoke on the need for the EU to move more on free trade with the Arab Gulf countries which play an important role in the Mediterranean and Africa.
