Elderly woman, two children hospitalised after Naxxar traffic accident

An elderly woman and two young children have been hospitalised following a traffic accident in Naxxar.

The accident took place on Tal-Balal Road at around 12:20.

A police spokesperson said there was a collision between a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by a 20-year-old man from Marsascala and a Hyundai i10 driven by an elderly woman from Attard. Two children, aged 11 and 14 were also in the Hyundai.

The police said they were initially told that there were no injuries but were later informed that an ambulance had been requested. The woman and the children were taken to Mater Dei Hospital. Their condition is not yet known. The other driver was uninjured.

A parked BMW X3 was also damaged in the accident, while one of the cars – the Mitsubishi – crashed into a wall, causing considerable damage.

Part of the road leading in the direction of San Gwann is currently closed to traffic. 

Police officers, medical personnel and the Civil Protection Department were called to assist.
