Minister Byron Camilleri must carry political responsibility over prison scanner tampering - PN

The Nationalist Party has called on Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri to carry political responsibility after a story published by the Sunday Times of Malta read that Prison officials are being instructed to override a security feature embedded in x-ray scanners that warns them when inmates and visitors are being exposed to excessive levels of radiation.

Making reference to this story, as well as a post by Peppi Azzopardi about this, the PN said that the minister must immediately explain if he knew and when he found about this "criminal abuse" that was taking place inside Kordin. Byron Camilleri has to also answer why, despite the 14 deaths in prison, he is still defending all the things that have happened before his eyes, done with his blessings, the PN said.

Under the same Minister, the system of detention and reform collapsed, the PN added. "To this date he has still not fired former prison director Alex Dalli, where instead he suspended himself."

"Political responsibility must be carried for all this and, as a consequnce Camilleri must either resign or be fired by Prime Minister Robert Abela because it is now increasingly clear that Byron Camilleri is totally incompetent, choosing to turn a blind eye to so much abuse," the PN said.
