Sunday, 24 April 2022, 06:48 Last update: about 3 years ago

Hibernians have a golden opportunity to move closer to the title with a victory over Gudja United this afternoon as second placed Floriana dropped precious points in a scoreless draw against Birkirkara.

Now Hibernians have a one point lead over the Greens but with today’s game in hand and a victory for the Paolites will see them open a four-point gap with only two mtches remaining.

A victory today for Hibernians will practically mean the end of Floriana’s residual hopes to challenge for the title.

Floriana and Birkirkara met only six days ago in the quarter final of the FA Trophy, a result that led the Stripes to part ways with manager Andre’ Paus.

Yesterday however it was another game and the Stripes gained a good point in their quest to obtain third place in the standings.

The result can be considered a fair one as both sides cancelled out each other.

The Greens had a slight edge over their opponents during the 90 minutes but this was not enough for them as Birkirkara defended well and fully deserved the point earned.

Scoring opportunites were rare in a rather dull match with Ciolaciu failing to connect on 26 minutes and eight minutes later a Falcone header was easily blocked by Kitanov.

Near the end of the first half Jan Busuttil should have domne better with his shot easily saved by Sylla.

In the second half thing did not improve much with a Falcone header blocked by defender Ruiz and a Busuttil drive saved by Sylla.

On 75 minutes a Bevis central drive was blocked by Kitanov.
