Russell Crowe is back in Malta

Tuesday, 17 May 2022, 11:32 Last update: about 3 years ago

Famous actor Russell Crowe is back in Malta, as per a post he uploaded on the social media platform Twitter earlier this morning.

Crowe was the star of the Ridley Scott Roman-era epic Gladiator, which was partly filmed in Malta in 1999, with Fort Ricasoli being used as a set for ancient Rome.  He played the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman general-turned-slave-turned-gladiator seeking revenge over a power-hungry Emperor, played by Joaquin Phoenix.

He was in Malta just last November for the filming of ‘Prizefighter’ – film about boxer Jem Belcher – and spoke at length about his love for the island ever since filming Gladiator in Malta.

Crowe on Tuesday morning tweeted cryptically ‘Where am I now?’, sharing a picture of what is unmistakably the view of Fort St. Angelo from Valletta shrouded in morning mist which greeted many on Tuesday.

Crowe was last January honoured at the Malta Film Awards with the Malta Film Industry Honorary Award.

The cost for the lavish Malta Film Awards has remained under wraps, as the government refuses to answer parliamentary questions, media questions, and freedom of information requests on it.
