A man died after falling one storey soon after being involved in an attempted burglary from a Qawra establishment on Thursday, the police said.

Police were informed of the incident in Qawra Road at 4.30am.

Officers who went on site discovered that the glass door of the cafeteria had been shattered, noticing a trail of blood leading across the road to a low wall and into a block of flats, situated a level beneath the road, where a man was found dead.

The police investigations confirmed that the dead man, who was later identified as a 46-year-old St Paul's Bay resident, was the same one who had broken into the cafeteria.

Magistrate Lara Lanfranco is leading an inquiry.
