About love and passion - Operatic Arias for Soprano

International soprano Andriana Yordanova and renowned versatile musician Ramona Zammit Formosa will be performing a lunchtime concert organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, held on Tuesday 15 November 2022 at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta.  The recital starts at 12:30pm.

The outstanding duo will perform well-loved excerpts from celebrated operas, penned by world famous composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi and Massenet, amongst others. Andriana will sing Irene's impassioned aria from Vivaldi's 'Bajazed': Sposa son disprezzata and Col piacer della mia fede by the same composer. This will be followed by Porgi amor from 'Le Nozze di Figaro' and Oiseaux, si tour les ans by W.A. Mozart and Col sorriso d'innocenza from Bellini's two-act opera 'Il Pirata', as well as Salome's aria Il est doux.. from Massenet's opera 'Hérodiade' and his aria Musette. The programme concludes with A. Dôvrák's Rusalka and Songs my Mother taught me. Ramona Zammit Formosa will provide charming musical interludes which include Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours 'La Gioconda' and the wonderful Delibes'  Flower Duet 'Lakme'

Bulgarian-born soprano Andriana Yordanova is an established singer who has a vast experience in opera singing in Malta and abroad. Besides her extensive performing career, Andriana is also a voice teacher who holds a Masters in Opera singing and Vocal pedagogy and a Ph.D. in Music and a Master degree in Russian language and literature. Her repertoire ranges from Italian, French, German and Russian operas to operettas, baroque music, Lieder and modern composers. Her career brought her from Bulgaria to Egypt, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, Austria. Since 2001 she lives in Malta. She is an opera singer, judge in International Competitions, visiting lecturer at UoM and voice tutor at Malta School of Music.

Ramona Zammit Formosa is a seasoned and versatile musician.  Besides the Renaissance and Baroque period, Ramona also specializes in 20th century and contemporary works for the harpsichord. Besides giving numerous recitals in Malta and Gozo, Ramona has performed in England, Italy, Austria, Hungary, USA, Belgium, Bulgaria, Portugal and Poland. She has dedicated entire solo recitals to the great keyboard masters; Rameau, J S Bach, CPE Bach, Reggio, Mozart, Grieg, Liszt, and Granados. She has also recorded works of different Maltese composers. Ramona is a Fellow of the London College of Music and teaches at the Malta School of Music.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta. Built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565,  it has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.  

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem. 

Operatic Arias for Soprano will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 15 November 2022 at 12:30pm.
