Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant writes today that it is wrong to give the green light to developers who have flouted the law.

In his opinion piece today, Sant says that he cannot understand the method “concerning people who break the law and build without any permits whatseover where and how it is forbidden to build”.

Instead of telling them to dismantle what they have built illegally and pay a hefty fine, we tell them to pay a fine which “would be peanuts” and say everything is in order.

The Labour MEP says that the authorities are weak with the strong and strong with the weak. If “a worker” builds a washroom on the roof, then the authorities oblige him or her to remove it.
