Sunday, 27 November 2022, 11:01 Last update: about 2 years ago

There was a whole day of traffic chaos in the road leading to Mgarr Harbour as Gozo Channel announced delays and/or cancellations due to the inclement weather.

The service was eventually suspended in the afternoon as the conditions worsened "util further notice", the company announced.

Cars lined up all the way back to Xewkija as from the early morning as people tried to make their way back to Malta.

Delays in the service has meant that there was a long line of cars waiting to board.

This has also meant that buses had to use the "wrong" side of the road to make it to be harbour, as can be seen from the photo above, uploaded on the Maltese Roads Traffic updates Facebook page.

The administrators of the page later said that police officers turned up to tell drivers to push to the left side of the road as much as possible.

In the morning, Gozo Channel company had announced that due to the rough seas, its operations may experience delays or cancellations. The service was later suspended.

"Due to bad weather forecast, Gozo Channel ferry operations may be delayed or even cancelled today Sunday 27th November 2022," it said on its Facebook page.

A storm is hitting Malta in these hours, with Force 8 winds from the north east.

A warning has been issued by the Met Office for the coming hours: The Northeast wind will be very strong over the Maltese Islands and reach gale force over the exposed areas. Moderate to heavy rain or hail showers are expected to affect the Maltese Islands.
