American University students conduct studies of biodiesel project
A group of five students from the James Madison University in Virgina accompanied by their tutor Dr Amy Townsand are currently conducting studies on the EORC biodiesel project. The students will be following up on previous studies conducted two years ago by students from the same University.

During their one month stay, the American students will be conducting feasibility studies on the use of Biodiesel in Malta, as well as how the local oil and fats collection scheme can be marketed in a more efficient manner.

EORC commercial director Pippo Psaila, said: “The JMU faculty and the EORC have similar objectives, environmental responsibility and sustainability. The follow-up process conducted by these students is beneficial to us even as a nation as it traces the potential of biodiesel in Malta. Their studies are particularly constructive from our point of view because they include a scientific perspective of the local situation as well as the possibilities of bettering the current system of oil collection to the benefit of all.”

Mr Psaila said that the JMU had included EORC in its survey of international biodiesel projects. He also said that academic exercises such as the JMU’s were very valid on a local and international level, and hoped that it would serve to create greater environmental awareness especially regarding the benefits of greater biodiesel use in Malta.
