The European Union will soon approve the projects that Malta has planned to carry out with the funds that the union has earmarked for the country, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday. Speaking at the PN club in Qormi during the annual general conference of the locality’s section committee, Dr Gonzi said that with the e855 million earmarked for Malta, the government plans to carry out various environmental and infra-structural projects. He said the funds would also be used to create employment, boost women’s participation at work and to help strengthen the family.
These projects will continue to improve the standard of living of the Maltese and Gozitan citizens, he said, just as the new tax measures introduced in the last budget, among which the reduction in the income tax, have done.
The Prime Minister said that throughout the years, especially during the “difficult times” the country went through in the ‘70s and ‘80s, the party had dedicated activists whose political contribution was instrumental so that in 1987, the country could carry out the changes that were necessary to modernise the economy.
He said that the PN always had a clear vision for the country and based its political agenda on what it has always believed in – the values and ability of the Maltese and Gozitan people. This has been a consistent element in the politics of the party, he said.
