A series of illustrated talks on the history of Malta is being given by lecturer Vincent Zammit, organised by the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
The talks will be divided into a series of three. The first will cover the period of the Knights of St John in Malta, and the second will cover the period between the coming of the French, the uprising against them and the first years of British rule. The third series will cover the British in Malta.
The first series will have 10 talks of two hours each, being given at the Knights Hall of Palazzo De La Salle in Valletta and will start on 12 April. They will be in Maltese. However, if applicants indicate that they would be willing to hear them in English as well and the number of applicants justify it, the talks will also be held in English.
The talks in Maltese will start at 5.30pm every Thursday, covering various aspects, such as the Great Siege, the building of Valletta, art, the naval fleet of the Knights, eating habits, dress, and the development of towns and villages.
There is a fee of Lm9 for the first series (10 talks).
Application forms and further details can be obtained from the society at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, from Monday to Friday between 8am and 1pm; tel.: 2124-4339, email: info@artsmalta.org; or by visiting the society’s website at www.artsmalta.org.
