Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna (FWA) – The Malta Heritage Trust, has launched the Hands-on Heritage Education Programme as part of its ongoing effort to raise the general appreciation of the country’s cultural heritage.
The initiative, as the name suggests, is specifically designed for schools; giving a lot of importance to a hands-on educational approach. A typical session may involve wearing a period gas mask and exploring the air raid shelters at the Malta at War Museum, viewing and learning about the monstrous Lord Armstrong 100 ton gun at Fort Rinella, or even having a go at making ancient potteryware at Kordin III Temples, using skills and equipment that are typical of the temple period.
Students will therefore not only learn about the history, architecture and function of each site, but also be invited to participate in the activities that are specifically organised for them.
FWA is offering the programme on a daily basis at Fort Rinella in Kalkara, the Old Saluting Battery in Valletta, The Malta at War Museum in Vittoriosa and the Kordin III Temples in Paola. In order to encourage schools to include these cultural outings in their yearly agendas, FWA is offering special group rates all year round.
