British deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to visit Malta
British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is due to arrive in Malta on an official visit today, as part of the UK’s efforts to better understand the issues affecting new EU member states, following their accession in 2004 or 2007.

In a statement, the British High Commission said Mr Prescott’s visit will provide an opportunity for Malta and the UK to discuss issues affecting both countries, such as illegal immigration, the future of Europe, the EU budget review, EU enlargement and climate change.

During his visit, the British Deputy Prime Minister will pay a courtesy call on President Edward Fenech Adami and will meet the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, and the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Mr Prescott will also receive a courtesy visit from officials of the Malta Labour Party. In addition, he will be taking the time to visit British industry that is operating in Malta.

Mr Prescott will be leaving Malta tomorrow.
