Hermine Anna Sammut, an Austrian-born artist living in Gozo, will represent Malta in a forthcoming joint exhibition with Austrian artist Anna Maria Böckl, to be held in Vienna. The exhibition is titled HEIMaltaAustriaTogether (homeland – Austria & Malta together).
Hermine A. Sammut will display contemporary acrylic paintings, ceramic sculptures and jewellery in silver and ceramics, interpreting the landscapes and symbols of Maltese heritage. At the same time the exhibition promotes Gozo Cottage products, Gozo Cheese and the Maltese islands as a tourist destination. Anna Maria Böckl presents her homeland, Austria, through abstract and modern acrylic paintings and felt artwork. The artists have received sponsorship and support from the Malta Tourism Authority, Nadur Local Council, Gozo Cottage, Joseph Attard (Gozo Cheese) and The Picture House. The exhibition is under the patronage of the Maltese Embassy in Austria and will be inaugurated on 22 December by Univ.-Doz.Mag. Dr. Franz Kernic, M.A. (Guest Prof. Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada). The exhibition runs until 30 December.
Hermine A. Sammut, born in Vienna and married to a Maltese, has been exhibiting locally and abroad since 2003. In this exhibition she focuses on the beauty of Malta and Gozo. Inspired by the colours, landscape and heritage of the islands; she reflects her impressions, feelings and thoughts in acrylic painting, sculpture and silver/ceramic jewellery. She recently exhibited Reincarnation of Waste at the Art Box Gallery in Gozo and this year has also taken part in collective exhibitions and art competitions throughout Malta and Gozo, including the Giuseppe Garibaldi Competition at the Cultural Institute: Vecchia Cancelleria Valletta; the Eden Foundation Exhibition in Victoria and Treaty Rome at Kenuna Tower, Nadur, Gozo. In 2006 she exhibited her jewellery in Sittingbourne, England and presented a joint exhibition, Just Men on a fishing boat in Mgarr Harbour, Gozo. Hermine shows her work in galleries throughout the Maltese islands and at her home and studio in Nadur.
Anna Maria Böckl, born and living in Austria, is a psychotherapist who has been using art for many years in her work with clients and students. She believes that soul and art are inseparable. This will be her first public exhibition. She presents her soul and her country in the form of modern abstract acrylic paintings and uses a very old, traditional technique to produce felt to symbolise her inner world, experiences, reflexes and impressions.
