Maltese politics, Dom Mintoff and EU membership are just a few of the topics mentioned in President Emeritus Guido de Marco’s autobiography, The Politics of Persuasion, which was launched on Wednesday at the Palace.
President Eddie Fenech Adami, who also wrote the foreword, presided over the launch, which was attended by distinguished guests including Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici and other politicians.
Dr Fenech Adami also chaired a discussion panel made up of former University rector Peter Serracino Inglott, Education Minister Louis Galea and former Labour minister Daniel Micallef.
In his autobiography, Prof. de Marco describes Mr Mintoff as a phenomenon. While praising him for his endless energy and oration skills, the former President said that Mr Mintoff could easily destroy a person’s reputation without any remorse.
Prof. de Marco also wrote about his childhood, how he became interested in politics, the rise of the Nationalist Party and EU membership.
His autobiography provides an insight into Malta’s history and politics, its role during the war and the tense and violent years under the Labour governments in the 1980s.
Prof. de Marco will be signing copies of his book at Agenda Bookshop at the Embassy on Saturday at 6pm and at Agenda Bookshop at The Plaza on Sunday at 11am.
