Table-Tennis: First win for Maltese team
Malta registered their first win yesterday morning – a 4 - 0 win over Latvia.

This was a very good result after the much improved performances of the previous day where, in both matches, the Maltese lost marginally in the last sets.

The players who obtained these results were: James Dawson who beat Lisjaks Matveys 3-1; Daniel Vella Fondacaro who won 3-0 against Brils Andrejs; Steve Bugeja who defeated Pedans Eduards 3-0. In the doubles the Maltese pair Vella Fondacaro and Bugeja won 3-0 against Lisjaks/Brils.

In the final match of the team events for the final ranking Malta lost to England 4-0, and although the Maltese did not win any set, all matches were hard fought especially those involving Daniel Vella Fondacaro, who lost 3-2 in a very close match.

Today is the cultural day for all athletes and delegates while tomorrow the singles knockout phase gets under way.
