Isle of MTV Malta Special 2008: I fell in love with Malta - Enrique Iglesias
by Annaliza Borg

While the final preparations for the Isle of MTV concert were taking place at the Granaries yesterday evening, Enrique Iglesias and Lady GaGa met members of the press at the Excelsior Hotel, giving details for today’s show.

“I’m happy to be back – I had a great time last year and a great day today,” said Enrique Iglesias when asked about his Maltese experience. Referring to the Maltese audience he said, “It was among the best I’ve seen and will be putting my heart into tomorrow’s performance.”

Enrique Iglesias had just arrived from an eventful day that included swimming with the tuna in one of the cages at Marsaxlokk and a boat ride around the island. He made it clear that he had arrived on Monday to have time to enjoy himself besides getting a bit of work done because he had fallen in love with the Malta.

“The friendliness of the people could be felt and the food is great; I like rabbit,” Iglesias said when asked to mention two words that best described the Island.

Focussing on tonight’s show Lady GaGa said, “I feel very blessed to be performing in Malta.”

Being just 22 years old, today’s performance, which she described as remarkable, would be her first before an audience of 40,000 people.

“I just hope to reach and inspire every person in the crowd and get them dancing and having a good time,” Lady GaGa said.

Lady GaGa comes from an Italian-New York family and the multi-talented singer and songwriter turned herself into a real performer and an exhibitionist. In fact, music critics often describe Lady GaGa as the upcoming Madonna.

Enrique Iglesias and Lady GaGA were the first performers who arrived in Malta for tonight’s show. While N*E*R*D arrived late yesterday afternoon, One Republic and The Kooks would be arriving hours before tonight’s show thus, heading straight into sound check on stage and flying back right after the show.
