Qala council’s restoration of a fort should be emulated by local councils, as a way of preserving their historical heritage, Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said said when he visited the works in progress at Fort Sant’Antnin.

The work is being carried out by Qala council and Din l-Art Helwa.

Dr Said said the council had worked hard for the fort to be transferred to it and described the work as being substantial, especially in view of the fact that the fort had lain abandoned for ages.

The work is in the hands of Din l-Art Helwa experts, under the direction Perit Edward Scerri and is part financed by a grant of e71,000 by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, Din l-Art Helwa and HSBC Bank.
