Children benefit from ‘Sedqa’ educational tools
The latest initiative by Agenzija Sedqa in supporting its prevention programmes in schools is the production of two new interactive and educational CD-ROMs, L-Avventura ta’ Max u Amy and Crossroads.
Each prevention programme and educational tool gives the opportunity to children to experience a tranquil childhood and adolescence thus also facilitating their education. Both programmes were developed with the co-operation of the children and young people
themselves.
L-Avventura ta’ Max u Amy is the third CD in this series, aimed as a follow-up programme for students between seven and 10 years attending primary schools, following T.F.A.L. (Tfal Favur Ambjent Liberu) 1 and 2 launched in November of 2006 and 2007 respectively. Apart from the possibility of being used in schools, this interactive tool has been designed to enable the parents to use it with their children also at home.
T.F.A.L. is part of Sedqa’s Prevention Services in schools tailor-made for students. In T.F.A.L, two main characters, Max and Amy, through various life situations, pass on messages and empower children to participate in positive behaviour and decision-making. Among others topics include self-appreciation, conflict, friends and grief.
Crossroads, the third edition in this series is the latest edition aimed for Home Economics teachers in Secondary schools.
Moreover, a Maltese edition of an online game, Wild Web Woods, and which forms part of the Council of Europe’s programme, Building a Europe for Children and with Children, was also launched recently. The game is aimed for children over three years and it is about internet safety and children’s rights. The game can be accessed on www.wildwebwoods.org

Good to know information on hamsters
A hamster will take little space in a home and you can enjoy a hamster’s company irrespective of whether you live in an apartment or a house with a garden. Hamsters are cute, fluffy and have big eyes and pouches to match. Hamsters are cheap to buy and inexpensive to keep. Hamsters are quiet. There are drawbacks to every pet, and the hamster is no exception. You should never disturb a hamster that is asleep or else it can get sick. Also, hamsters are nocturnal which means that you will have to play with them in the evening or night.

What I wish for 2009
It is a new year. It’s 2009. I have chosen this time to write something about what I wish for this year. I have chosen these issues for what I wish for this year.
First and foremost what I really wish is that we shall have no bad accidents while abroad with my family – what I mean is avoiding injuries and getting sick or robbed.
Secondly I am not going to wish for myself or my family only. I wish that all the people who require special needs are helped more from everyone. I wish I will be the first to help children in my school.
Last but not least I wish that we have more peaceful families. Families whose parents fight and argue. And those parents whose children abuse alcohol or drugs.
Those were the things that I wish for the year 2009. I hope all my wishes come true!
Lara Farrugia
When a new year begins I think of many wishes and do lots of promises to myself to do good things for me and others.
For this brand new year 2009 I wish to behave and obey more those who really love and respect me. I also wish luck to my sister who is passing through a hard time studying for her O level exams.
I hope that politics and media people make more effort to inform people for a better environment and a healthier lifestyle.
But above all, I wish love, health and happiness to all the people I know, and especially to those poor children who are homeless. May God be with them through all the coming years.
Melaine Darmanin
For the New Year I wish to get good marks in my school exams. I wish that in some countries, like Gaza and Israel, the war stops because a lot of innocent children are dying. In my country I wish we could help more refugees to have a better life. I wish that we do not ruin our countryside and nice places because the tourists will not visit our country anymore. I wish that in this year we have less road accidents. I hope I’ll be more conscious of waste management. Above all I deeply wish that God gives me courage to help people who are dying of hunger.
I also wish that this year will be the best for all.
Matthew Cutajar
Another year has gone by and we are now facing a new year – 2009. I guess everyone wishes for things and looks forward for more
things and achievements.
In fact I am going to mention some of the things I wish for in 2009. The first thing I wish for is health. Health is my main wish. Without it, I can have none of the other things. I also want peace and well being in my family. I also wish that at school especially in my class we will work as a group and accept our differences. I will do my very best to bring peace.
I also wish that everyone will be more aware of the environment, starting with our homes, schools and villages.
In summer I wish to go abroad. I wish to visit a place I never went to, maybe Spain because it is my sister’s dream too. I also wish I will do well in the exams but I guess this wish can only come true if I work hard.
I guess I mentioned quite a lot of
wishes. Hope all my dreams come true!
Chantelle Saliba
In this New Year, I wish that people that are living with a low standard of living finds more help than ever. Let’s make the best 2009 for everyone!
Amanda Zammit
This year is a special one because I have so many wishes which are good for me and others. My last wish is that I will be one of the winners in the Independent competition.
First of all, I would like some wishes for myself. I would like that my parents will let me adopt a cute, little puppy. I also wish that I will do well in my piano and school exams.
In my heart I also wish that more people would be generous enough to adopt a child from an orphanage or at least donate money to help them have a better life. I also wish that war would stop, because it is a pity that innocent people are losing their lives.
I would really like that every person in the world would have a success in his life. I also wish that the people who are ill will be healed and if not, a cure will be found for their illness and have a speedy recovery.
I am quite satisfied about my wishes because if they happen to come true I together with other people will be much happier!
